Taking a step back to the 1800’s..
For this weeks sunset hike that Pineapple Gang went to Saint Peters Village located in Elverson, PA. This quaint little town takes you a step back in time. You are able to reconnect with nature and allow your soul to reset as you walk along French Creek. The town was founded in the 1800’s and is home to many of the workers at the nearby mines. You will find restaurants, artisan shops, a hotel, and even an old arcade!
This walk is not for the guy who just had a hip replacement. The first mile or so of the hike is full of boulder hopping. Take a walk/hop through these boulders, check out the graffiti, and keep your eyes out for snakes lurking in the rocks! Keep in mind there are no maps or trail markers so keep an eye on your map, or stick with staying along French Creek.
This is a great place to bring kids or your four legged best friend as there are plenty of places to get into the water and explore. We arrived at 6pm on Friday evening, the lot was pretty full. There were people swimming, rock hopping, picnicking and enjoying the gorgeous weather. There were a lot of dogs as well and a majority of them were found swimming in the creek.
I do have to say my absolute favorite part of this place is the boulder hopping. I remember as a kid having so much FUN and jumping all over the place… my 31 year old body and knees tell me otherwise now. This is also a great place to just come and sit on the rocks, zone out and take the nature in. All of the boulders create gorgeous, small waterfalls the entire way down offering awesome views during the hike.
Unfortunately, we did have some casualties on this hike. Out of our group of 9 (5 adults, 2 kids and two puppers) we did end up losing 3. The trail ended up being a little to rough for some… so we ended up stopping at a short .8 of a mile, let the dogs and kids play in the water until heading back to the parking lot.
After we finished we headed out and decided to grab some Rita’s on the way home. A perfect way to end the evening! Heading back home I had to stop and take a few photos of the sunset. The sky was bleeding reds, pinks, oranges and yellows. It was absolutely gorgeous. It was the perfect ending to an awesome hike with friends.
My next hike is going to be this Sunday 7/26 at Valley Forge. Hope to see you out there!
